Nowa Huta is an excellent destination for a school trip — it combines 20th-century history, socialist-realist urban planning, socio-cultural curiosities and everyday life where history meets the present. Children and teenagers respond well to contrasts: monumental squares and streets designed with ideological principles next to ordinary neighbourhood life and surprising stories about the people who lived and worked here.
A walk through Nowa Huta gives a chance to discuss core curriculum topics: postwar Polish history, social and economic changes, the Solidarity movement and the political transformations of the 1980s, as well as basics of urban planning and architecture. All of this can be presented in an engaging way, tailored to the group's age — with humour, anecdotes and interactive tasks for pupils.
For teachers: the route is flexible — we can focus on history, architecture, social change or prepare activities with elements of a field game. A trip is not only “telling facts” but also asking questions that spark curiosity and classroom discussion.
As a guide I have led thousands of school groups and know how to motivate young people to take an active part in outdoor lessons.
The route is suitable for both younger pupils and high school students — I adjust the narrative and pace to the age and needs of the group.
A walk through Nowa Huta lets you see the key sites connected with the creation and life of the socialist city: the Central Square with its monumental buildings, the Avenue of Roses and residential estates designed according to the urban ideas of the time.
When guiding classes I also point out memorial sites and symbolic places connected to the opposition and Solidarity — these are excellent starting points for conversations about citizenship and human rights.
Depending on the chosen route we can visit smaller local museums, churches or everyday-life locations, and show examples of urban and architectural changes that have happened in recent decades. The route can also include short field tasks for students.
During the walk students learn curiosities: unexpected facts, funny anecdotes and local legends that help them remember history in an accessible way.
I lead everything with energy and humour — so even a tired class listens attentively and asks questions.
The school offer is prepared to be flexible: standard durations are 2, 3 or 4 hours, but shorter or longer options can be arranged to suit your needs. Thematic options can include: postwar changes, architecture and urban planning, socio-cultural aspects of residents’ lives, or a mini city-game (quest) for pupils.
When booking we agree the trip’s goal and programme — this ensures the material matches teachers’ guidelines and the students’ age. For younger groups I focus on stories and imagination-engaging tasks; for high school students I emphasise historical context and discussion.
For larger groups I offer sets of audio-guide headphones (optional) — very helpful for trips combining several classes or when we want to avoid noisy conditions. The headphones cost PLN 8 per person.
If a teacher would like a lesson plan or a list of post-trip questions in advance, I’m happy to prepare supporting materials for classroom work.
Tours can be run in Polish and in English — please specify preferred language when booking.
Prices depend on group size and tour length. Typical rates for school groups (indicative): 2 hours — from PLN 350; 3 hours — from PLN 450; 4 hours — from PLN 550 (these are base offer prices). These rates apply to guiding in Polish for small groups (up to 35 people).
For larger groups prices can be given per person — a convenient solution when combining several classes. When booking we will discuss details and I will prepare an offer tailored to the group size and needs.
The tour price covers the guiding service — admission fees to institutions (if included in the route) are usually extra. If you wish to visit museums I will assist with ticket purchase and inform you about current prices and student discounts.
To book a date please contact by phone: +48 501 962 037 or by email: kontakt@zwiedzaniekrakowa.com. Booking allows us to set meeting place and time and to discuss programme details.
Keep in mind that school-trip dates fill up quickly in popular months (May–June, September) — the earlier you reserve, the more choice of times and routes you’ll have.
Meeting place and time are agreed individually — usually we meet at a central, easily accessible point. If you prefer a different meeting place (for example at the school), I will adapt the route so logistics work smoothly.
Trips run regardless of weather. In case of heavy rain or very bad weather the route can be modified to spend more time in sheltered locations — I always have a “plan B”.
Please remember comfortable footwear and clothing suitable for the weather. For younger pupils short breaks and a snack stop can be helpful — if you want a scheduled break, we will include it in the plan.
Accessibility for people with limited mobility: part of the route can be adapted, but due to the nature of some places (pavements, steps) please report needs in advance so I can plan the most comfortable route for everyone.
Audio-guide headphone sets (PLN 8/person) improve communication in larger groups and crowded places — I recommend this option for combined classes or when you want to maximise pupils’ attention.
I have been a licensed guide for Kraków since 2012 and have led thousands of visitors — including many school groups. My aim is to tell stories in an engaging way, with humour and clear examples.
With young people I emphasise interaction: I ask questions, propose short field tasks and connect historical facts with everyday residents’ stories. This helps pupils remember more and take part willingly.
I make sure the perspective is accurate while adapting language and pace to the group’s level. If a teacher has specific learning goals, I will gladly include them in the tour programme.
I conduct tours in Polish and English. When booking please indicate language preference and any special needs of participants.
