Frequently asked questions before booking a private Kraków guide

Answers to the practical questions people ask before hiring a private guide: booking, prices, families, weather, walking, and the main Kraków routes. Prices and cancellation rules come from the current price list and terms of service.

Booking

How do I book a private guide?

Email margaret@guideinkrakow.com or call +48 501 962 037. Share the date, time, group size, language, and how long you would like to walk. Małgorzata Kasprowicz will reply to confirm the slot and the meeting details.

How far in advance should I book?

Earlier is calmer, especially in high season, on weekends, and for school groups. A few days or a week ahead is usually enough. In summer and on long weekends, book further ahead if you can.

Can I book a guide for today or tomorrow?

Sometimes, if the day is still free. The quickest check is by phone: +48 501 962 037. Last-minute bookings are harder in high season, but it is worth asking.

How can I check a specific date?

Email margaret@guideinkrakow.com or call +48 501 962 037 with the date and time you have in mind. There is no public online calendar - availability is confirmed personally.

Can I change the date?

Yes, if you get in touch as soon as you can. A new slot depends on what is still free. There is no separate published fee for a date change - it depends on whether the new time is available.

What is the cancellation policy?

You can cancel no later than 24 hours before the tour. A later cancellation may be charged at 50% of the service value. Details are in the terms of service.

Pricing and payment

How much does a private Kraków guide cost?

English-language tours for groups of up to 35 people start from 450 zł ($ 120) for 2 hours. Each extra hour is 160 zł ($ 50). The full price list also covers Polish-language tours and larger groups.

Is the price per person or per group?

For groups of 1 to 35 people the price is a flat fee for the whole group. From 36 people the rate is per person. See the price list for both tables.

What is included in the price?

The fee covers the guiding: the walk, the stories, and help planning the route. Museum and church tickets are extra. Transport, meals, and souvenirs are not included.

Are entrance tickets included?

No. Tickets for interiors - for example St. Mary’s Basilica, Wawel Cathedral, or Schindler’s Factory - are paid separately. The guide can help you buy them and advise which interiors are worth adding.

Is the headset system extra?

Yes. Wireless headsets cost 9 zł/os. They help with larger groups and in crowded streets. On the Polish open-group walks they are included in the ticket price.

How can I pay?

Usually cash after the tour or bank transfer. Another method can be agreed when you book.

Can I get an invoice?

If you need an invoice, mention it when you book and send the billing details. Whether an invoice can be issued is confirmed individually.

Tour details

How long is a tour?

Most walks last 2, 3, or 4 hours. Longer routes are possible - each extra hour is on the price list. A shorter, focused walk can also be arranged.

Where does the tour start?

The meeting point is agreed after booking. It is often the Main Market Square by the Adam Mickiewicz monument, or another convenient spot in the centre. A Kazimierz walk can start in Kazimierz itself.

Where does the tour finish?

It depends on the route. A typical Royal Route walk finishes at Wawel. The ending point can be planned near your hotel, a restaurant, or the next stop in your day.

Can the guide pick the group up from the hotel?

The meeting point can be outside a central hotel or another convenient place. This is not a transfer or a car pickup - it means starting the walk from the hotel if the route allows it. Send the address when you book.

Can the route be tailored?

Yes. You can combine Wawel with Kazimierz, add Nowa Huta or Schindler’s Factory, shorten the walk, or skip a museum. Say what you want to see and what you would rather skip.

How large can the group be?

Private tours are priced as one group up to 35 people. Larger groups, from 36 people, are charged per person. Małgorzata Kasprowicz has guided groups from 1 to 80 people. Bigger groups usually need headsets.

Which languages are available?

Małgorzata Kasprowicz guides in Polish and English. Prices for both languages are on the price list.

Families

Are the tours suitable for children?

Yes. Małgorzata Kasprowicz guides families and school groups. The pace and stories are adapted to the children’s age. For younger children the Krakow with Kids legends walk works especially well.

What age is suitable for children?

There is no strict age limit. Preschoolers do better with a shorter walk, stories, and breaks. School-age children usually manage 2-3 hours. Mention the ages when you book so the pace can be planned.

Can we visit with a stroller?

Parts of the centre and the Planty are manageable with a stroller. Kazimierz and Wawel have cobbles, steps, and slopes, so a stroller can be awkward. Mention it when you book so the route can avoid the hardest stretches where possible.

Can we take a break during the tour?

Yes. The pace follows the group. A stop for coffee, ice cream, or a toilet break can be planned, especially with children or on longer walks.

What is the legends walk like?

It is about a 2-hour walk built around stories for children: the Wawel Dragon, King Krak, the towers of St. Mary’s Basilica, and the pigeons on the Market Square. The pace is lighter, with questions and small contests. Details are on the Krakow with Kids page.

Do you guide school groups?

Yes. School groups can walk the centre, Krakow with Kids, Kazimierz, or a longer day outside the city. Duration is flexible. Larger groups use the per-person price list. Mention the age of the class when you book.

Weather and accessibility

What if it rains?

Tours run in most weather. In heavy rain more time can be spent indoors and outdoor stretches shortened. Wear comfortable, weatherproof shoes.

Are the routes accessible for people with limited mobility?

Parts of the Old Town are relatively flat, but Kraków has cobbles, kerbs, and a climb at Wawel. The route can be eased if you mention mobility needs when booking. Some interiors have stairs and are not always accessible.

How much walking is involved?

It is a walking tour. Two hours usually stay in the centre. Three to four hours can reach Kazimierz or link a few districts. The pace is unhurried, with stops at monuments. If someone in the group tires quickly, a shorter version is better.

What shoes should I wear?

Comfortable, flat shoes. The Old Town and Kazimierz are cobbled, and the stones get slippery after rain. Heels and stiff new shoes are a poor choice.

Routes and attractions

Can we go inside Wawel Castle?

Yes. The Wawel and Royal Route walk goes up the hill. The courtyard and the stories are part of the guiding fee. The cathedral or selected castle exhibitions need a separate ticket and depend on that day’s availability.

Can we visit Schindler’s Factory with a guide?

Yes. The Ghetto and Schindler’s Factory walk can last 2 hours outdoors, or 4 hours with entry to the museum. The factory ticket is extra and is best reserved in advance.

Does the guide offer a Kazimierz tour?

Yes. There is a dedicated Kazimierz walk, usually about 2 hours. Synagogue and museum interiors are optional and ticketed separately. Kazimierz can also be combined with the centre on a longer walk.

Is a Nowa Huta tour available?

Yes. The Nowa Huta tour usually lasts about 3 hours. Part is on foot and part uses public transport or a coach. It covers the architecture, everyday life in communist Poland, and the contrast with the historic centre.
