Kazimierz is one of the most distinctive parts of Kraków - a place where history, culture and everyday life come together in a fascinating mosaic. This 2-hour walk focuses on the Jewish part of the district: I will tell you about synagogues, the cemetery, customs, the Yiddish language and the little details that give Kazimierz its unique atmosphere. The route is dynamic but not overly strenuous - ideal for medium-sized groups of 7 to 20 people. I want you to go home not only with facts, but also with vivid images, anecdotes and recommendations for places worth visiting again on your own.
During the tour we will visit sites that are usually worth going inside - including the Old Synagogue (museum) and the Remuh Synagogue with its old cemetery. Admissions to some places are sometimes charged separately - I will tell you the approximate costs and ticket options before we set off, to avoid surprises.
The route is offered in Polish or English, and the narration aims to combine accurate facts with stories, local anecdotes and practical tips - so that every participant, regardless of age, takes away something interesting.
I focus on what I can offer you personally as a licensed Kraków guide.
- Szeroka Street - the former center of the Jewish town, where several synagogues once stood and which remains the heart of historic Kazimierz.
- The Old Synagogue - today a museum that shows Jewish customs, holidays and material culture in Kraków.
- Remuh Synagogue and the old cemetery - a place of prayer and memory, with tombstones dating from the 16th–18th centuries. I will also tell you about Rabbi Remuh and the role of this site for the local community.
- Izaak Jakubowicz (Izaak) Synagogue - its history, legends and the way the buildings link religious life and everyday life.
- Tempel Synagogue - an example of another face of Jewish architecture in Kraków.
- The alleys and courtyards of Kazimierz - film locations, culinary spots and symbolic details such as mezuzot and Yiddish inscriptions.
We meet at an agreed place in central Kraków - usually the Main Market Square by the Adam Mickiewicz monument, or another convenient spot arranged after booking. We always start on time.
First part of the walk - a historical introduction: I talk about the founding of Kazimierz, the role of this district in the city's history and the transformations it has undergone over the centuries.
Next we move to the heart of the Jewish quarter - Szeroka, the Old Synagogue, and stories about customs and holidays. When possible we enter museum interiors and synagogues (entrances may be charged separately).
Second part - synagogues, the Remuh cemetery, curiosities, legends and practical tips - where to eat, what to see after the walk and how to explore Kazimierz on your own. At the end I answer participants' questions.
Duration: 2 hours. Pace adjusted to the group, with short breaks for entries to buildings and photos.
The tour price covers the guiding service. Fees for entry to synagogues and museums are usually additional and depend on the site. For example, Remuh Synagogue charges an entrance fee (concessions and full fares). I will inform you about exact amounts and concessions before the tour so everyone can prepare cash or buy tickets online if that option exists.
In case of bad weather or special circumstances the route can be modified so we spend more time indoors and avoid long outdoor stretches.
If you plan a visit with a school group or a special group - I can prepare educational materials and adapt the narration to the age of participants.
Practical tip - carry small change for tickets (coins and small notes), and if someone in the group is entitled to a reduced fare (students, pupils, seniors), please bring an ID or document confirming the entitlement.
- For visitors who want to learn about the Jewish history and culture of Kazimierz in a reasonable time - 2 hours is a good compromise between detail and pace.
- For medium-sized groups - recommended number of participants is 7-20 people. Such groups are intimate enough to ask questions and take part in conversation, while also being cost-effective.
- For families with children, schools and guests interested in culture, architecture and stories connected to the place. The route is adjusted to the age and expectations of participants.
If the group is larger than about 20 people, I suggest discussing the organization in advance - splitting into smaller subgroups or using individual receiver sets so everyone can hear the guide clearly.
Approximate cost of the guiding service for a 2-hour walk (season 2025): - standard price for a small group: a fee for the whole group (price depends on number of people and date) - promotional reductions may apply in low season.
Exact rates are agreed at booking - after you provide the number of participants, date and preferred language. Due to seasonality and promotions it is worth booking in advance, especially on weekends and during festivals.
Bookings and contact - please call or write an email to set the date and details: phone: +48 501 962 037 - email: kontakt@zwiedzaniekrakowa.com. After receiving your booking I will confirm the details and give information about the meeting point and any entrance fees.
If you would like a gift voucher or a tour in a specific language - write in advance and I will prepare an offer tailored to your needs.
- Clothing: comfortable shoes for walking on cobbled streets and steps. In winter bring warm coats and footwear with good grip. On sunny days bring headwear and water.
- Respect for places of worship: synagogues and cemeteries are places of prayer and memory - please keep quiet and dress appropriately when entering interiors.
- Payments: museum tickets often need to be bought separately - carry small change or a payment card if the site accepts cashless payments.
- For people with limited mobility: part of the route runs on uneven cobbles and includes steps. If someone has difficulty walking, please let me know when booking - I will prepare a route with fewer obstacles or propose an alternative solution.
- Duration: 2 hours - a punctual start allows us to make the most of the tour time.
Is the route suitable for children? - Yes. I can adjust the pace and content to engage younger participants, and prepare shorter stories and simple tasks to keep their attention.
Does the guide speak English? - Yes, the tour is available in Polish and English. Please state your preferred language when booking.
Are synagogue tickets included in the price? - No - fees for entry to synagogues and museums are usually additional. Before the tour I will inform you of approximate costs for specific sites and help with ticket purchase if needed.
What happens in case of rain? - The tour runs regardless of weather. In heavy rain or very poor conditions I will adapt the route to spend more time indoors and avoid long outdoor stretches.
How far in advance should I book the tour? - As early as possible, especially for weekends and cultural events. Phone or email bookings are the most reliable.
