If you're planning a walk through Kazimierz with children or a one-day trip from Krakow to Ojców National Park and you want it to be interesting, stress-free and full of memorable stories — you've come to the right place. I'm Małgorzata Kasprowicz, I've been guiding in Krakow since 2012 and I often combine a Kazimierz walk with a short outing to the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. In this article you'll find practical tips, a sample day plan, information about attractions and answers to the questions families ask most often. Everything in a simple, friendly tone — no overload of dates, but plenty of ideas to make the trip enjoyable for adults and children.
Want to book a date right away? The easiest way is by phone or e-mail — contact details are at the end of the article.
Below I describe: what we'll see in Kazimierz, what is worth visiting in Ojców National Park, how the family offer works, practical information about time and costs, and a short FAQ with tips. Let's get started!
Note: admission fees to attractions and parking charges can change — treat the amounts given as approximate and check them when you book.
Kazimierz is a district full of history, atmospheric streets and places that make it easy for children to "step into the story." On a family walk it's good to focus on a few highlights:
- Plac Nowy with its famous kremówkas and treats that help overcome afternoon tiredness.
- Szeroka, Józefa and Miodowa streets — home to the most important synagogues and memorial sites, which I tell about in a simple, vivid way.
- The Old Synagogue, Remuh Synagogue and the Remuh Cemetery — a brief, respectful story about the district's history.
- Church of the Body of Christ and Skałka — for contrast and a few curiosities about architecture and local customs.
- Atmospheric alleys, courtyards and photo spots — perfect for family pictures and short scavenger-hunt games for kids.
The route can last from 60 minutes (a quick overview of the main points) to 2–3 hours if you'd like to go inside sites and take food breaks. As a guide I adapt the pace and the stories to the children's ages — simple anecdotes, questions for younger kids and short tasks to complete along the way.
Ojców National Park is a great complement to a city day — green surroundings, rock formations and short, easy trails that work well with children. The most interesting stops on the route are:
- Łokietek's Grotto — the legend of the hiding king is a simple, engaging story for children.
- Kraków Gate and Hercules' Club (Maczuga Herkulesa) — distinctive rock formations that impress even the youngest visitors.
- the Spring of Love and the Chapel on the Water — pleasant spots for a short rest and a snack.
- Dark Cave (Jaskinia Ciemna) and archaeological sites — stories about animals and people from centuries ago, told without scaring the children.
- Ojców Castle and Pieskowa Skała Castle — ruins and castle courtyards that kids love to explore.
The park is the smallest national park in Poland — compact in character, so you can see several highlights in one day and return to Krakow in the evening. Trails in Ojców are generally easy, but with small children it's worth wearing comfortable shoes and bringing drinks.
My family offer is based on flexibility and matching the pace to your needs. Here's what you can expect:
- Personalized route — I shorten stories, add quizzes and tasks for children, and plan breaks for food.
- A safe pace — I often propose loop routes to avoid long returns on foot with grumpy little ones.
- Interactive storytelling — legends, short riddles and photo tasks that engage the youngest participants.
- Logistical help — I will tell you the best places to park, where the toilets are and where to find quick family-friendly meals.
- Headsets for larger groups — when the group is big I provide amplification so everyone can hear.
I adapt the tour both for families with strollers (easier routes) and for families who prefer more walking and outdoor play. If you want to combine Kazimierz with Ojców — I suggest starting the day in the city in the morning and heading to the Upland after a lunch break.
Time and price depend on the chosen route and the language of the tour. Approximate information (given as guidance; I confirm details when you book):
- City routes: 2 hours, 3 hours or 4 hours — the 2–3 hour options are most popular for touring Kazimierz.
- Trip to Ojców: a full trip usually takes about 4 hours, which allows you to calmly see the park's highlights.
- Guiding fees for small groups (approximate): 2 hrs — around 350 PLN, 3 hrs — around 450 PLN, 4 hrs — around 550 PLN. Prices in English are higher.
- For trips in Ojców National Park there are additional charges for entry to some sites: Łokietek's Grotto, Ojców Castle or entry to the courtyard at Pieskowa Skała. When you book I will give you current rates and help with ticket purchase.
- For larger groups I use per-person pricing — we agree everything during booking.
If you want to save time on site — I can help organize ticket purchases in advance or suggest the best visiting hours to avoid queues. At booking we agree on payment method and any extras.
- Shoes: comfortable, closed footwear — especially in Ojców where paths are rocky.
- Layered clothing: weather on the Upland can change — a light jacket or rain poncho is always useful.
- Snacks and drinks: although there are catering spots in Ojców, it's good to have something on hand for children between attractions.
- Stroller or carrier: some sections in Ojców and the narrow streets of Kazimierz aren't ideal for strollers — a carrier may be more convenient with small children.
- Toilets and breaks: I plan the route with regular access to toilets and places to rest.
- Parking: in Kazimierz it's better to aim for garages or spots 2–3 blocks from Plac Nowy — driving around with kids can be tiring.
- Weather: tours usually run regardless of the weather; in very bad conditions the route may be modified to spend more time indoors.
- 9:00 — Meeting in central Krakow (I suggest the Main Market or another convenient spot) and a short walk through Kazimierz with stories and activities for children (2 hours).
- 11:30 — Break for a snack or quick lunch in Kazimierz — I recommend family-friendly places where you can eat quickly.
- 13:00 — Drive to Ojców (about 30–40 minutes by car from central Krakow, depending on traffic).
- 14:00 — Walk in Ojców National Park: Kraków Gate, Hercules' Club, Łokietek's Grotto, a short visit to Ojców Castle (about 3–4 hours total with breaks).
- 17:30 — Return to Krakow or dinner in the area if you plan to stay longer on the Upland.
This plan can of course be shortened or extended — everything depends on the family's pace and how long you'd like to stay at each site.
Is the tour suitable for small children? - Yes. I adjust the pace, introduce short games and tasks to keep the youngest engaged. For very small children I recommend bringing a carrier for hillier sections.
How much does a trip to Ojców National Park cost? - The guiding fee depends on the chosen package and group size. When you book I will give approximate rates and information about any entrance fees in the park.
Are museum and cave fees included in the tour price? - No. Tickets for caves, castles and museums are usually paid separately — I will help you check current rates and, if needed, purchase tickets.
Do you also give tours in English? - Yes, I guide in both Polish and English. Prices for English tours may differ.
What if the weather is bad? - Tours usually run regardless of the weather; I have a plan B that moves some of the storytelling indoors or shortens the outdoor part.
How do I book a date? - The easiest way is by phone or e-mail — contact details are at the end of the article. When booking we agree on the meeting point and start time and go over group details.
- Book your date in advance, especially on weekends and during school holidays.
- Pack light snacks and drinks for the children and a change of clothes.
- Choose comfortable shoes for the whole family.
- If you plan to park near Kazimierz — have a paid parking app and plan a garage as a backup.
- When booking, provide children's ages — I will prepare appropriate tasks and pace for the visit.
I will happily guide you around Kazimierz and take you on a family walk to Ojców National Park. I accept bookings and questions by phone and e-mail. I contact you personally to arrange route details, timing and any special needs.
